SHSG October 2021: Astringents

Happy Fall, everyone!

And with the changing leaves, the cooler temperatures (sort of) and the blooming asters comes our return to in-person, discussion based group meetings. Thank you everyone for another great plant walk season, lets go study together until next June!

This October, please come join us as we discuss herbal astringents. This will be the first in a collection of group studies scattered throughout the year that will focus on the six tissue states and sharpening skills with herbal energetics and constitutional medicine. Astringents are a great introduction to these concepts if you are new to them because they are a fairly straightforward group of plants, and the tissue state they correspond to is a common one especially in allergy/cold/flu/COVID season. If you have some experience with astringents already, please join us to share your insight and learn a bit more about how these plants could benefit you this time of year.

During class we will introduce the topic of astringent both as a taste and a plant action (the word actually covers both), and of course, when you might call on these plants as medicinal allies. We will go over examples, discuss medicine making, plant profiles and as long as it is safe to do so, sample some recipes.

Some notes about COVID-19 precautions: as of right now, we will be continuing in person classes and not holding classes on Zoom. Should any of that change either before or after this class, I will reach out directly to registered participants of course announce to the group. Please keep in mind that masks are required for all participants regardless of vaccination status. If you are having COVID symptoms at the time of class, please let me know and I will be happy to refund your ticket. We have a class cap of 12 people to maintain appropriate distancing.

Classes are $10, and we are going to have tea available so please bring a mug if you would like a hot drink during our discussion. We will NOT have mugs available to share. Looking forward to seeing everyone there!
